Speaker: Charlotte Krenzer, SPHR, Cloud Peak Energy Human Resources Department.
As part of Human Resource leadership and individual contributor development, the 9-Box method of assessing performance and potential provides an excellent resource for crafting succession plans and identifying next steps for employee development. The 9-Box grid provides a simple visual reference that can include performance and assessment data to allow managers to easily view employees’ actual and potential performance. Individual development plans for both high and low-performing employees can then be designed with collaboration between the employees’ managers and the HR department.
For coaching and talent management, the value of the 9-Box is in identifying when coaching or a change in job or responsibilities may be needed. When used in concert with performance appraisals and development plans, the 9-Box can be both a versatile and a valuable tool for any organization.
